CANINO AND OLIVE GROWING

An area rich in history and art, highly devoted to olive growing.

Olive growing in this area of Latium dates back to Etruscan times. Vessels with drawings and paintings depicting the olive harvest have been found. The antiquity of this tradition is also demonstrated by the presence of olive trees groves of majestic proportions that characterize the rolling hills of this area. The cultivation of the olive tree had a new impetus since the '50s, when the Land Reform took the land from the Prince Torlonia and distributed it to the farmers. This gave rise to the first significant financial results for the area, and led for the first time the olive oil of Canino beyond the local market.

Characteristics of the territory
The soils dedicated to the cultivation of olive trees are at a maximum altitude of 450 meters and are of different types:
soils of volcanic origin;
siliceous-calcareous soils derived from Quaternary rocks along the valleys of the river Fiora;
alluvial soils .

The olive varieties
Our olive oil is obtained from the following Canino olive varieties: Caninese and derived clones, Leccino, Pendolino, Maurino and Frantoio (alone or in combination).
